Appreciation

Today the hubby and I had to go up to Raleigh. His Battalion was having a ceremony to present the recruiting awards from the past two quarters.

Fortunately the ceremony only lasted about an hour. It was almost lunch time when we left so we decided to get something to eat on the way home. I had a gift certificate for Cracker Barrel that his aunt had given us for Christmas, so we decided to stop at the one in Dunn. We wanted to get out of Raleigh before stopping. The hubby hates driving in Raleigh.

So we're sitting there in Cracker Barrel enjoying our meal and conversation, when this older gentleman comes over to our table. He looked at me and apologized for interrupting, then looked at my husband, leaned down, and shook his hand. He thanked him for his service and the job he does, and told him he prays that he continues to stay safe. We're pretty used to that, because he has people come up to him fairly frequently when we're out to eat and he's in uniform thanking him for his service.

Then the gentleman did something that we've heard about, but have never experienced personally. The gentleman asked if he could buy our lunch. P told him, "Oh, no, please." But before we could say anything else, he took our ticket laying there on the table, told us to leave the tip, and he was buying our lunch. Before we could even say thank you, he had walked away. We were both speechless, and I was in tears from his kindness.

So, for those of you who do so much to support our military, thank you. We appreciate the kindness more than you could ever know.
