TV Censorship

The hubby and I were sitting here the other night pondering the logic (or lack thereof) of television censorship regarding profanity. Why is it that certain words are allowed but others aren't? And what's the logic behind the words that are allowed versus the ones that aren't? Why are people allowed to say 'G-D' on TV (which in my opinion is THE worst one) but can't say 'shit'? One day I was watching a movie that had been edited for TV and a guy was calling someone an asshole. They bleeped out the 'hole' part of the word. Why?

I know this is a weird thing to blog about, but it's just something I've been curious about for a while. After all, this blog does consist of my random ramblings. ;-)
